I picked up this 1883 Indian cent a few months ago. The price was right for a non-"big 3" TPG. My question is why isn't the Cert Number valid? Has anyone had similar experiences with SEGS? Is there a cause for concern over authenticity?

Also, the color of the coin is pretty different; a very deep brown with hints of light brown poking through. Just seems a bit off. I wonder if the grade would hold up on a crossover..not that I would bother.

SEGS was reasonably reputable so unless you see something seriously wrong it should cross.
But if the color in your images is true it might downgrade from RB to BN.

As for the Cert Number SEGS never had an online listing that I know of.
That's why SEGS never made it as an ebay approved TPG.

Possibly a database error, NGC and PCGS have had plenty of them as well. Contact them and they can probably fix it.

SEGS has had certificate verification for a little while now. They have satisfied ebay requirements for being listed as a "real" grading service but ebay is still refusing them to list them as such.
