Hi guys. I wonder what your thoughts , concerns are when you look for price info on coins. I know for the most part we find info from past auctions, forums and TPG guestimates. Also last resort ebay. But When it comes to more modern coins I think the the TPG price lists are just way off and that is an understatement. Example 1991 France 1 centime. I saw them for sale on many sites anywhere from $400-$1000 mintade of 5000. Common sense would say it must be worth something due to its small pop. Why does NGC price guide have it listed for $1.50.
Do they only use info from their own auctions? If so do yo not think that is a little blinkered. As luck would have it,I actually found 1 from a past sale on ebay and only 1 and it sold for £121 about $150.
surely it wouldn't take them long to gather info to at least give some accurate figures. It's not an isolated event. Just an example of well what I call laziness. If you look the irishcoinage website and see the pricing of irish coins. Then look at NGC price guide it would indicate the much respected John Stafford-Langan is barking mad. It feels as if its all about one countries coinage and stuff the rest of the world. hat say you?

Most coins, particularly the common ones, don't change price for years.
Pick a common coin, look it up in a 10 yo Krause catalog and compare that to a current one and it's highly possible the value will be the same.

In fact my 2011 Krause lists the 1991 France 1 centime at $1.50!
The amount struck is small as you indicated (5000).

For a catalog the size of Krause I'm not surprised they can't keep up with all the price changes.
And NGC is REALLY only interested in US coins.

If you personally can find situations such as you mentioned you can get some real bargains until the rest of the world catches up.

Published price guides are useless for anything except gauging relative values, and none more useless than those published by people with a vested interest in high prices (like a TPG). The Greysheet and Numismedia are the only published lists I care about at all, and my decisions on retail value only vaguely refer to either. Coins are worth what people are paying for them today, not what some third party thought a few months ago.

It is a cop out to say that with all the coins in the catalogue Krause cannot keep up with the prices. We pay good money for the catalogues and expect that what we buy is up to date. If it isn't then don't call it the 2015 edition.
Also as a collector of world coins it was frustrating that NGC only got around to updating values for many coins about a year or 2 back after using the same prices for 15+ years. Had rare gold coins in high grade and worn common dates both at BV by that stupidity.
