I was at my local bank the other day and the teller I deal with on roll hunting mentioned to me that they were told to send back old $20 bills because there are too many of these in circulation has anyone heard of this?

Correct. The plan is to have only polymer notes circulating. as more and more polymer notes are printed ,the paper notes are withdrawn. The tellers are the front lines of the banking world. Get to know someone from the bank and have them save them for you. I only have them save the older ones for me.

Yes this was already happening 2 yrs ago with the introduction to the polymer notes...

The $20 bill can be considered the "work horse" of all denominations for notes. They are used more frequently, there are more prefix's and they wear faster.

When the switch to the poly 5's, 10's and 100's were done basically as soon as the denomination was handed into the bank it was to be replaced with a poly note.

But for the $20's they slowly were taking them out of circulation while still keeping the "best" of the paper issues to ensure a smooth transistion with few if any shortages.

Funny, but I can't even remember the last time I got a paper $20. They certainly aren't loaded into the banking machines.

I got one just the other day when I had to make a withdrawal... but it was right at the teller inside the bank. They are out there just fewer and fewer..
