It's most obvious on the obverse - look at the dark stuff around the tight areas of the devices and letters. This is usually a sign of a prior cleaning, and a rough one. The coin was so dark to begin with that what the cleaning couldn't reach is obvious. It's not inconceivable, but very unlikely that a natural process could result in a look like this.
Not to mention, 1881-S is the easiest of all Morgans in nice Mint State grade and this coin would be very tough to move down the road. Anyone can afford one in a 64-65 slab.
