Hi everyone, saw this under my new/first magnify glass. Is this an error or is the O just faded?

Could have been damaged, could have been a weak strike, could have been some type of strike through. Add the wear to the coin in general to it, and there you have it.

Can't say if what really happened but another possibility is the mintmark punch broke. In that case the broken punch should be a known VAM since every coin from that die would show the broken O.

Probably grease got stuck in the upper part of the "O" on the die.

Its exactly the shape of an O, just with the top obscured or missing... so yeah definitely an O. That would be one funky way to punch a U :)

First off

I agree with DoubleEagle....probably a Grease Filled Die.

Just out of curiosity, what year is it?
