I've bought from them before, and was pleased. Only thing is that the colors aren't accurate to the auction pictures other than that no complaints.

Thanks Amazon. I think they either alter the color with image editing software or their camera is not calibrated correctly. I'm still waiting on my coin, they seem a bit slow to ship. Pics by me forthcoming.

Rec'd this coin today. It looked pretty much like the original picture....something definately looked strange about the color though. At least I've never seen a Lincoln look like that and I've seen quite a few. I put in in some reagent grade acetone for 30 seconds to see what would happen. Lo and behold, the high points became more natural looking. Oddly, I didn't see ANY change in the clarity of the acetone! What the heck did he color this coin with? I'm totally confused, but there was something done to make this coin appear better. Now, what do I do? This is definately an MS62-63 grade coin IMO. I'm planning on keeping it because it still a good price. Should I mention the fact it was colored in my feedback and fear retaliatory feedback? Check out the after acetone pics (wish I would have taken before pics, too late now). Image: 1913ebay.jpg56.71 KB Image: 1913ebayREV.jpg65.1 KB

Let the acetone evaporate, as it is reagent grade, there should be no residue, if there is residue, is it the same color as the coin was? this should give you a starting point for discussions with the seller.

Personally, I like the look of the Lincoln after it the acetone bath. Hmmm...I don't why that would happen. I've bought three items from them, including a 1936 penny that I have in my gallery. When I received the coin, it looked like another coin because it was so dark compared to the picture. So I know that they mess around with the images when they sell it. In the end, mine ended up with the same brown look as yours badthad. Maybe you should e-mail and tell them your keeping the coin 100%, but want to know why it changed in the acetone. This way, they won't think that your trying to back out of it.

7070 - Too late, I tossed the acetone. I didn't look that closely at it either, just noted no color change. That's a great idea for the next time I try this on a coin. Amazon - I'm still deciding what to tell him. I agree, the coin looks MUCH better after the acetone. As everyone has always said here, there's no way for acetone to hurt a coin, especially the reagent grade I'm using. No other comments? I thought this might start a pretty good discussion. I know one thing, I won't be buying any more coins from this guy. While it's still a great coin, it certainly didn't need to be enhanced with something, and I kind of feel decived....but in many ways that's my fault. The ebay photo definately looked strange IMO. Oh well, live and learn.

I actually buy several of Nancye913's coins and I have had no problems with them being altered in any way. He is one of the better lincoln sellers on ebay IMO. I have done alot of business with him. (It is a guy btw dont know why he uses nancy in his username)

Sorry ,,that is at best a low AU lincoln and nothing like the seller pictures .
I can tell you what I saw now in the original pictures that gave me my feeling .
I noticed that the cheek and Jaw line were a little wide for an unc lincoln and also the left wheat stalk up the left side was indistinct .
The color was unnatural in tone .
If it was me that puppy even for the price would be on its way back for a refund .
If you keep it then positive feedback is all you can leave .

I agree that this looks a lot different in your pics. The original one looks like it has more detail and a better strike (could be your lighting though). I soaked a toned cent once, took all the tone off and made it look funny, I put it in the window sill for a few days and now it looks normal. As for what to do with feedback, I agree with metalman either return it or keep it and leave a positive. It is possible that the seller knows nothing about Lincolns and bought the colored cent to sell on ebay for cheap and did not color the cent himself.

More than likely it was just invironmental effects on the coin originally. By that I mean standard Oxydation or some slight Chlorination effects. Acetone sometimes removes this if only the reaction was slight which in your case appears to be the problem. That coin is really nice and if keeping it, don't worry about anything else. And remember there will always be individuals that downplay any coin, car, house, boat, flashlight, toothpick you buy as "not a good deal", "I could have got it cheaper", "My uncle has had nothing but bad luck with those" and on and on and on. This is usually human nature to play down others accomplishments when they in reality have failed. I like that coin. Be happy with a great deal.

and if they could get it cheaper, and their uncle has had nothing but problems. Then its not down play its reality and the person not listening is the one who fails . Metalman

I'm not expert but the color just looks unnatural to me. If it's totally original I would say very high grade and fantastic eye appeal.

It looks like every coin they sell has the same processed look. It appears as tho they doctor the coin pictures as evidenced above with the before and after pictures. I would be angry getting the after pic in the mail while paying for the before pic.
