I have never seen a penny like this before....The rim of the cent has no copper coating and you can see the zinc. You can also see the zinc peeking through on the surface in some places. There is also many "craters" on the surface on the penny. There is a "crater" where the mint mark is supposed to be so I do not no what mint it is. There are also craters in these locations-Left of "liberty"/I in "In god we trust"/And above "states".

The coin also feels lighter than a normal zinc penny, but I have no way to tell. My scale only goes to the nearest
gram. It could just be my mind

My guess is that the craters were made because of the oil/grease on the machine, but then again I'm no expert. (Not sure why there is no copper coat)

Thx!

*Sorry bout sideways pics

Looks like the thin copper plating has been burnished of the high edges of the rim and some of the other devices. The 'crater' is hydrozincite, or normally referred to here as zinc rot.

The trouble with Zincolns: they go to pieces over time. Any break in the protective copper plate allows the elements to take over. Environmental damage sets in and the rest is history.

Definitely PSD. If the plating gets split, then the zinc rot starts. This one looks like it vandalized.

Under the date, that creator, do you see zinc/darken color inside there? I'm not seeing that from the image.
