I believe that all of the (surviving) 20k rolls are zinc but can't cite any reference on that right now.

I think it stems from the Mint using the steel blanks early in 2012 and then switching in about Feb to the zinc blanks until the final coin was minted on May 4th. So the last several million including the 20k rolls and likely a higher percentage of the total mintage for the year are zinc.

That said, and totally anecdotal, I found 6 2012 coins in change. Four are zinc and 2 are steel.

I just looked at the mintage numbers in charlton(2014) and if its correct there were 88m zinc and 111m steel made for 2012. 2011 mintages were 3 times 2012 with over 300m zinc and 300m steel.

Lol ya CC- Ottawa I remember that now , there goes a hundred bucks...

Do you still have the other roll, because some seller on ebay would have $1000 on it now as it could be someones birthday or some such thing.

Yep but the actual numbers will be much lower since they destroyed a lot that were out in circulation and what have you , who knows what the real numbers are but still in the millions so none are rare or scarce , but any good sales person can make them seem scarce and something you cant live without... Sell me this Pen...
