In light of the recent offering of large cents in the upcoming Landon auction, what do you think the future holds? Do you think prices will plummet? Do you think some of the "big guys" will try and buy up as much as possible in order to control prices? Will this auction spark new large cent collectors? What are your thoughts?

Quote: Do you think prices will plummet? Prices have been slowly coming down in general, I think the question should be, will Trends finally be updated to reflect the realized prices? Also, I did some number crunching last night and the starting bids seem high to me. I won't be surprised if many lots do not get a bid at all. Quote: Will this auction spark new large cent collectors? There might be some existing collectors who look at this as an opportunity to break into the high end market. But I doubt any "new collectors" will emerge.

I don't think it will make much of a difference to the average large cent collector at all as these coins are for the high end collectors with deep pockets. They are some of the finest Canadian large cent coins known and way out of most peoples reach. Like you say there will be lots left over for the next sale I don't think all will sale either at the starting bids only my opinion of this sale

Where do you see the starting bids on the Landon Auction. Session one is the Landon auction, and all I see is the estimate.

Correct tfred they are estimated bids but I'm sure they also will not start at $1.00 bid, most likely at 50 per cent and that will also be out of reach for most? Sorry for trying to read the future

Im no expert on this topic but it has to have some ripple effect across the playing field. If I were a dealer and got a wad of it I would control the sales for sure and If I had a deeeeeep pocket I would luv to secure some thoroughbreds to put in my stall but alas it will be a separation of those who have and have not that will be playing in this game. What a conversation it would be if Mr. Landon were here to witness it all. We will be discussing this for a long time.

The long term effect will probably be minimal as the market will eventually find a new level. The coins will be somewhat available to future collectors. Short to medium term prices should drop as there is probably too many GEM pieces entering the market all at the same time. I talked to ICCS this morning and the very subject of these coins came up. One thing is certain , Brian told me these are without doubt the finest Large Cents they have ever seen. Also brought up was the fact there is just not that many high end Large Cent collectors out there at this time. This tells me that there is going to be a lot to go around for every one who cares to want one. I found the token lots most fascinating of the whole Landon sale. Almost makes me want to start collecting Bretons!

There's also some information and thoughts on this subject in a thread about halfway down the page under "Landon Collection"

I think it was just under a year ago that Geoffrey Bell held an Auction with a whole wack of tokens and the prices were crazy!

I really think that it will be good it will increase in collectors because the large cent collectors will get rid of their lower grades and possibly upgrade. In addition the new coins will amaze more amateur collectors.

I think the sale will make gem mintstate large cents much more available to average collectors in the future. The esoteric collections will be after the 67's and 66's, I'd guess there will be plenty of 65's to go around. I honestly can't see, after browsing the catalog, how a sale of this magnitude won't put downward pressure on pricing.

As far as I can tell, the only way to get a digital copy now is to go to this site http://www.cdncoin.com/-a/354.htm and enter your name and email. They will then email you a digital copy to download. I don't believe its up on collector yet.
