Poll Question
As wee all know, in 2010 the shield penny was introduced. I want to know what reverse design YOU would have picked for the new penny! Here are a few of the proposed designs, so vote for your favorite!

Below are my opinions:
The Capital Building would be fine for a new coin, but I don't feel that would compliment/represent Lincoln.
That might be interesting if the flag was waving, but looks kind of plain flat like that.
I voted for the Shield. I think it reflects a historical design.
The Eagle has too much fine details for a fairly small coin.

I voted flag, because the shield is just stupid looking each time I see it. Everytime I see it I think Marvel had them design it for an ad for a Captain America movie or something....and if you are going to have the stripes you cannot forget the stars.

The eagle is too busy, if it were only the eagle without the branch it would be much better. To be honest I would prefer we lose the dead people from coins and go back to symbols, like say the US seal on one side of each coin and something else ont he other. Lady Liberty should have never been removed really because it doesn't imitate a king on any coinage which the country was founded against but one of liberty....so why all the dead people? commemorative coins is where they belong or medals or whatever.

there is no person living or dead that embodies the country, so no person should be on the coinage, but the ideas up[on which it USED TO BE based on.

I actually like the eagle. I thought the choice that was ultimately made was a poor choice, but then again, the U.S. Mint has failed to inspire for a good long while now. Why should we expect anything different from a redesign of the cent's reverse? As shadz said, I have often remarked that we needed to get back to the symbols of liberty and freedom on our coins, and stop with the idolatry and hero worship we currently have with our Presidents on coins. When they redesigned the reverse, they shouldn't have left the job half-finished. A new obverse to go with it would have been VERY welcome, at least by this collector. Hey, at least I could officially complete my Lincoln Cent set if they did that! And as a side note, my next post will be post number 1,000. Where shall I post that special one? Hmm...

I voted for the Eagle here, but in reality I would have voted for anything but the Shield. I find the Shield boring. I don't think it symbolizes our nation as well as the other three options given here. If the symbol had to be a Shield, we have used better and more interesting examples in the past.

Well.. I'm a Canadian collector that collects U.S. coins so, I guess I can vote too.
I voted for the Shield design, I just like it and it's a lot better than the Memorial coin.

But.. I really liked the Wheats.

This was before I started collecting so I never saw the proposed designs. I absolutely LOVE the capital building design. I can't believe they went with the shield. How Chucky Cheese of them.

Eagle. Nice to still have a design worth looking at. A shield? I was amazed at how many voted for that shield thing.

I don't hate the shield, but I like the Capitol and Flag designs better. Eagle might have been cool on a copper (colored) coin for once, but it would be really small on that penny.

(Really I would have voted to end the penny on a high note in 2009, but that's always a can of worms)

I would not disagree. I at least wanted it to be NIFC by now.

Compared to all the proposed designs, IMO they picked the worst one. I voted for the Capitol Building.
