I've just received my proof and bullion versions of Burundi African Lions and I must say that I love both of them. Really beautiful coins and being first in the series I finally have a chance to get a complete series without the need to buy missing coins from previous years. Just wonder if any of you guys got them too and if yes what do you think of them ? Here are the pictures of both of them Proof Bullion

When I first saw these, I thought I would get some. But I have a few issues with them that are related to my collecting goals going forward-
1- I will no longer buy coins that are commissioned as exclusives for dealers. This one such type coin, its a MCM exclusive so buying it interferes with my goals.
2- I dont really like how the lions came out, especially on the back. To me, it looks way too cartoonish, almost made me think it was some Lion King coin so that was a major turn off.
So while they dont fit for my goals and I dont like them, so long as you like them and are happy, thats really the most important thing.
BTW I understand this is going to be a long on going series by MCM, which seems to be a common theme now going forward.

I'm not a bullion collector but those are gorgeous. The price is pretty decent as well.

yup7676 - I'm not a big fan of comissioned coins either but since I liked design on those I have decided to get them. But I agree with you, don't buy something that you don't like.
Buddy - Yes, for a low mintage coins I think price is decent. Not much more than more common stuff.

Since JMBullion has these on sale and if silver drops a bit more today I will be ordering myself a roll of these lions at a price close to common silver rounds @ some sellers.

I have read somewhere that MCM sold number of them to other dealers.

Bought mine today at 20.45. Not that much above spot and actually less than many other 1 oz silvers. Did not buy it as a numismatic item but purely for silver

The jury is still out with me on this coin. I agree that the reverse is a bit cartoonist and have to see one in person to judge it further.

I think the MS Burundi African Loin REV is really bad. I do like the PF,yes. I like that they are the first coin in the series which is a good thing most times. I may get some but on the fence with the MS bullion Burundi African Loin. I would like a PF70.

The jury is in and I do not like this coin. I got a decent deal on ebay for a BU silver Burundi. To me, it is very amateurish and reminds me more of a silver round than a silver coin. I'll stick with the silver Somali Elephants.

What several of you have just said toward the end of the thread was exactly what I had been thinking, tho I did not want to offend fellow collectors or make anyone bad because they liked this coin.
However, seems like MCM is just trying to capture profits and an audience that likes collecting african wildlife related theme coins... thing is, this isn't one of the best lion coins out there
I have several lion coins from the German mints that make various african wildlife themed coins including lion coins and the one from MCM has got to be one of the worst I have seen, IMO.
