definitely a high nine. and high(er) GRADE. I believe it is the highest 9. there are several levels of high. ok now, the 45 nickel, give it a scratched grade of MS64 = Trends $ CAN 20 max. Are the other $ CAN 480 justified for this coin? even if it grades as a MS 60, which IMO it will not, it is way overpriced. someone really wanted that coin badly. As for the seller: Why private bids only? use your own imagination... I asked them politely some time ago why they use private listings so I could understand it better, and evaluate if it makes sense for me as a bidder. answer: It is our business how we run our auctions = blocked!!

I purchased some Newfoundland from that seller before, mostly ended up as better pieces in hand... I have to disagree with you on the grading 47p7, I have a feeling in hand the 1929 is an MS coin (62-63 BN)
Probably a pretty good buy for someone

jdmern that's ok, MO is that there are way too many circulation marks to be MS. just blow it up. tons of rim issues and other marks. maybe I am too picky. probably u are right. I was not, and would have never considered that coin for that money.

Quote: would have never considered that coin for that money. I personally would not have either, but I'm sure there are quite a few variety collectors who would... The varieties on the Canadian small cents and 20's and 30's nickels have never personally appealed to me

I do not collect them. If a variety comes along at the right price, I buy it and sell it, hopefully make a few bucks. The elusive one is right now the 1932 nickel, 2 far from leaf. the 1929 high 9 is scarce, but available. Also these nickels are not easy to grade.

Yeah, it's a good looking 'high' 9 and with the red showing a bit on the reverse would grade at least MS-60 IMO

Shaft, what about all the dings and dongs in the rims? proofs circulation and hence MS is very questionable.

Lots of bag marks, but definitely mint state. That High 9 is probably only the 6th mint state one that I am aware of...

If this coin is MS, the question pops up: why would the seller ( experienced) , not have this coin graded? personal preference maybe?

Seller is in USA- I don't believe PCGS recognizes variety- so then the seller is left with sending up to canada for grading. Plus the whole fact that seller did not catch variety. Probably not worth grading a low ms 1929

Doctorman, you are correct. But u will or others, will have a long way to go to get the "in betweens" recognized "officially".
