I picked this odd little item up recently. I think it may have been some sort of counter display in a bicycle shop from days gone by. It's a charming little piece. It looks good on my book shelf. If anyone can shed light on the history of this item it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid they are very common in England mass produced for the nostalgia market most antique centres will have a couple of examples.

Indeed a nice conversation starter.
And according to folklore its where the term 'breakneck speed' came from hence the advice under the bike.
