I have been roll hunting since March of 2014. I started to keep track of my findings on Microsoft Excel and it has been pretty nice. Recently I have started to use Microsoft access and it has been really nice. I keep track of years, mints, when they were found by running queries. Also compare the number of coins made any given year to the coins I have found. US Mint Mintage numbers and compare them to what I have.

My question is what is your method of keeping track of your collection?

I use Excel and can manipulate the data quite well.
Access can accomplish a LOT more BUT the learning curve is a killer.

I also use Microsoft Excel, and have been in the process of refining my inventory over the past 5 years or so. For my U.S. coins, my columns are coin type, year, mint, condition (this is the one that is still incomplete), variety info, and where the coin is located currently.

Since I try to find the best state and ATB Quarters from circulation for both P & D mints it can be a little confusing to remember which ones I have found and in what condition. To help me keep things straight I have a simple App for my smartphone. I am able to select the coins I have found and make notes about each one. It isn't anything special and it's the only thing I use to keep track of my coins since my collections isn't that complex or big......yet

i don't keep track of what I have, too much to inventory and would take me several weeks to itemize the list.

The closest thing I have to computer organization is want lists for my albums. Indirectly this tells me what I do have if I reverse it.

I use excel, and my better coins are in 2x2 flips inside a plastic organizer case.

Spreadsheet.

You cannot go wrong, whether it is Microsoft Excel, LibreOffice Calc, or Google Sheets.

When I was a young buck in cub scouts I tried to get my collectors badge by showing my leader my stack of wrestling cards, he was unimpressed, and said I cannot call that a collection as you have not taken the time to organize it. The next week I brought in my little brown book that held about 5 or 6 coins in it. I showed him that and he said this may not look very substantial, but you took the time to organize these coins and catalog them. He then gave me the badge.

To this day I still believe that you are not a collector until you have some organization, until then you are just a hoarder.

I use Excel, simple and easy to manipulate if needed. I found a app called Coin Collection. Free and super handy when at shows and when I need to check if I have or dont have a coin in the collection. There may be some better ones out there but for free, it has so far done everything ive needed it to do.

Is that a fact? Maybe not. Do I agree? Absolutely.

Haha I am both! I have both organization and chaos in all of my collections, not just coins and bullion.

I have long said that there is a fine line between collecting and hoarding.
