I think it was a decent buy at that price. Looks f-15 to vf20 is to me.

That is a great price, have you tried to attribute it yet?

No, I'm starting to take a look now. I see a couple of cracks on the reverse.
With your experience, do you have any hints?

Other than the obvious crack on the reverse, not really. I haven't pulled out the book. I figured I'd let you do that. There are only 6 die marriages so it shouldn't be too difficult. I always start out with the position of the curl over the date. That's first on Newcomb's list, then I look at the position of the sixth star near the tip of the coronet. That starts to narrow things down. The first thing I saw on the 1830 you posted the other day was the position of the curl to the date. That's how I knew it wasn't an N-6.

O.K. that's an easy one but I won't spoil your fun The crack on the reverse is "diagnostic" meaning that's the most obvious way to attribute the coin.

Without knowing anything about these coins I think you paid a fair price. I really like the color, nice patina. Features are crisp. Good job!

N-6? This would be my first attribution if correct. If I'm wrong, please don't tell me the answer. The well described die crack was my key.

Bingo. That was an easy one. The reverse crack was the killer. Like I said that was easy, wait till you try to attribute an 1847 with something like 40 different die marriages!

Looks like a fair price to me, I wouldn't complain to pay that for it.

Nice looking coin, not a bad price. In a couple of years you'll wish you could get them that cheap.

It seems that a lot of people are getting bit by the copper bug. Years ago when I started collecting large cents we copper collectors were considered a strange breed. A lot more people are starting to collect large cents now and that's evidenced by the steady rise in copper prices. I shouldn't encourage you Ed. Next thing I know you'll be bidding against me
