So the new subscription for the canoe series came out today, at roughly $45 a piece and 6 pieces total (so $270) altogether. They said they would be shipping a free canoe display case. Now what I'm wondering is (since I've never done a subscription before), if I pay the $45 for the subscription, does the first coin come in for free? Or would I be paying overall an extra $45 ($45 to subscribe and $45 for coin #1)? If anyone has any other warnings for me before I do subscribe, please do let me know. I am not too familiar with RCM products. Much appreciated -Paul

Paul, there is no surcharges, you pay for the coins as they come, when the first coin is shipped it will be charged to your credit card

So by subscribing for $45, I would be getting the first coin when it comes out at no charge?

You do not pay for the display, you pay $45 each coin and get the display for free.
I am conflicted with this series, I thought the 1/2 O'Canada series were over priced at $39.95, now they're asking $45 each? I actually like the detail and look of the coins, but the price is just oo much IMO.

Your CC would be charged 6 times for $44.95 plus shipping for each if you are not a Masters Club member.
The schedule is one coin per month so you would pay for and receive one coin per month between February and July.
Oddly, the mint is only committing itself to sending the case (at no charge) 'sometime' before the end of 2015. You would normally expect it to be shipped with the last coin but it's not clear that is their intent. Red flag - from past experiences, expect delays on the case.
It's interesting that the Mint has neglected to show the mintage which is reportedly up to 20,000 sets. That's a lot of toy canoes. lol.

I wonder if the canoe display is made of wood. Looks like it but who knows. Could be plastic.

Kind of rubber, probably. And sure coins will be in the capsules unlike the digital picture. @Paul: By confirming your payment of $45 now (you will be charged later), you actually paying for the first coin. For other 5 you will be charged "automatically" without your confirmation, and charge will be done prior shipment. This system works well at RCM. Just as per any other order , do not expect to be updated. Price: RCM coins priced CAD 150 max per 1oz depends on the "enhancement". People here have no issue paying $150 for glass creature coin, right? So 1/2oz also costs $79 max (hologram coin), and from here - $45 for 1/2oz proof RCM coin sounds natural. Specimen (Maple Leaf forever) or Matte proof (O Canada) will be cheaper a bit.

I will probably subscribe. By seeing the 3 designs available designs, I do like them. Hopefully in hand they are as satisfying.
Thanks for the help guys!

One thing that folks have not yet mention in this thread: Each time they ship you the coin, it does not come with a clamshell case and/or outter box. They just shipped you the coin and C.O.A so you have to find a place to keep the coin till you get the canoe case at the end of subscription.

To if you must have the cases and you are in Toronto - for symbolic price they could be yours.

If less, then no. The canoe would've been nice, but my LCS will be selling these coins for the same price as the RCM (with the usual clamshell case). To put 8$ of shipping for a coin, making it total to $48 + tax for shipping, and an extra $4-5 a case to store them ends up becoming $355 altogether

You could wait for a dealer to set the whole set and pay for shipping only once.
It's unlikely that this set will ever command a premium and very likely that dealers will sell the full canoe for the $270 issue price. You may however have to wait 10 or 11 months or more...
BTW, does anyone like the actual coins?
To me, they have way too much going on. Guy in the canoe, a dog, a fish, a deer of some type, a train etc. I expect the next ones will have an eagle flying overhead with a fish in it's talons while a beaver swims alongside the canoe and the faint sight of a red Molson beer fridge perched on the rocks in the background.
It's like the designer put every outdoor scene he could think of in a blender and hit purée.
