This looks to me like post mint damage. Meaning it happened after it left the mint. I will say it does look interesting though. Maybe someone who collects error coins can be of more help.

Maybe pro-longed wear? Or intentional wear?

Coin Rolling Machine Damage. The coin rolling machine moves and flattens the metal and causes what you see here.

Likely what SlurExe98 said. This is a pretty violent example of the type but not unheard of. Could we possibly see the reverse?

Can you tell if the fields just inside (towards the center) the line drawn by those dots is beveled towards them? I'm trying to nail down precisely where the metal came from to form those dots. They're so precise they almost look like the coin was in a chuck somewhere.

to the Community! I have a hunch that it's from a coin rolling machine, but I have never seen an example that extreme... Neat find!

I posted the reverse. As you can see the "IN" in, in god we trust is also smooshed. The fascinating thing is that the top of the letters are there, its just missing the bottom. Thanks everyone. I hope to find out exactly what this is!

It may have been damaged by a vending machine. We used to buy gumballs/peanuts/cashews other items back in the old days. Something may have been in the slot of the machine and when turned it damaged that area of the devices. It looks like it pushed them upwards to the rim.

Something could get into the slot like metal and damage a coin. PSD
