I bought a bagel and coffee at the local shop this morning and paid with four dollar coins. The woman behind the counter's face lit up when she saw them and she said, "Yes!" She then told me that she collects them, and that within the last year alone she has collected about $800 just in dollar coins she's gotten at the shop.

So somebody is spending them!

I went to the grocery store Friday night and paid with Presidential dollar coins. Someone had paid with dollar coins this morning, because there were already some in the cash drawer. I told the cashier I wasn't there this morning, so someone else is spending these coins in my area

In the last year, I have spent over $300 in Presidential dollar coins at my local grocery store alone. That doesn't include what I have spent at local gas stations and restaurants.

The commuter railroads in the NYC area have ticket machines that use $1 coins as change. I'm sure other cities have them as well.

The Australian gold colour One Dollar coin
is almost the same size and color as the U.S. gold color One Dollar coin.

I had a stash of about 400 of them. Australia does not have circulating Dollar Notes.
I paid for some minor car parts with 50 One Dollar coins yesterday, and they were VERY happy to have them, because their till had none. They needed more.

This is odd. I never see them at all. And most of the banks around me don't even have them anymore.

I'm fixing to dump 600 bu rolled dollar coins. Not sure why I kept so many. I went through 6 rolls of Washingtons looking for errors and put 2'rolls each in each of my 4 grandsons stash. Hope one of them catches the bug at some point.

And when they decide to get rid of them they probably won't spend them, they will take the whole batch to the bank and then the bank will ship them back to the armored car service and/or the Fed and they will go back in storage.

I spent about $4000 or so pre$, SACs, and SBAs last year.. I see plenty of NIFC ones in boxes as well as older ones. So many mixed I cannot find any 1981. They are still going around plenty of places, but mostly in areas that accept them in vending machines or give them as change from vending machines.

@jprine: 600 rolls of BU dollar coins?!?!?!
