I heard somewhere there will be a new Effigy of the Queen this year. Any truth to that?

The Royal Mint in the UK will be changing the effigy either late this year or early next year. Maybe the RCM will follow suit.

im not sure if I want a new effigy, I am tired of the current one bout the only ones ove ever liked were her firt two, It seems with her age the portraits get less appealing. I wouldn't mind one like on the 2002 half dollar though.

The 2002 half dollar portrait would be a good choice.

yes I agree, do you think the new one will show more age or do you think they will make her look younger?

I actually raised this issue with one of my senior contacts at the RCM back in the Fall, because I too am tired of the current effigy. My contact said they agreed QEII's effigy was in need of a refresh and they were in the process of contemplating redoing her effigy in conjunction with Canada 150 releases, to which I replied: "A) What does redesigning QEII's effigy have to do with Canada 150? B) What if she dies before 2017?, and C) At the end of the day, the effigy is stale now, so why not do something about it now?" The response: "I see your point, which I will share with our planning and strategy teams"...perhaps I should chase him down for an update this week...

oh thats just brutal, all we need is a 90 year old lady looking back at us. Why not go with Macdonald or someone canadian!

Got a problem with aged persons JeyRey? Just watch how fast you will be in the exact same position ... that is if you are lucky to live that long. Redo the Queen's image with tastefulness.

okay guys lets stay calm, not choosing sides here, just saying people are bound to say something wrong once in a while. remember that this is a discussion about a new portrait and not peoples age, were not here to argue and I would feel really bad for TheForce if his thread spiraled into some argument.

slightly on topic,
who replaces the queen when she passes on? will we have a king on our coins or a "true" Canadian?

Bacon by the Grace of God, Not sure.
Our effigies don't match those of Britain or Australia. Why get so worked up over this change? Prince Charles is next in line. So if we get a new effigy in concert with Canada 150, it may be the last change for QEII before the coronation of Charles. That should increase the demand for older effigies of QEII.
