I picked this up recently. What research I've done seems to indicate it is an Indonesian coupang from the Islamic Sultanate of Atjih from the period 1530-1568. I'm just wondering if anyone out there can verifiy this for me and maybe offer up some more information, ideally what the coin reads (I'm assuming there is a sultan's name and possibly a place-name, maybe also Allah?)

I'm pretty sure I have the orientation correct but it would also be good to know which side is considered the obverse.

Coin weighs 0.188 grams and is approximately 10mm in diameter.

Thanks in advance for any info!

I wish there is more interest in the coinage of Indonesia. There is a lot of interest with their pre-colonisation history, from Tarumanagara to Majapahit, but there is very little on the currencies before the colonisation era.

Here is an article on Indonesian coinage history here written by Puji Harsono, the vice president of Indonesia Numismatic Association (ANI, Asosiasi Numismatik Indonesia). I am linking this blog (maintained by a man named Arifin Martoyo) because I found it to be a reliable source.

Hope this helps for now. I wonder if there's a book on pre-colonisation Indonesian coinage in my library, there's a lot of random books in their stacks. I will check and borrow it if they do.

Your coin might be from an older period as well, have a look at http://abudervish.blogspot.com.au/2...-mansur.html & http://sedjarah.blogspot.fr/2006/01...97-1326.html

I think it may be a Dirham from the Kingdom of Samudra Pasai. The size matches. This coin's got a circle at 2o'clock on the design though, the Dirhams don't. A Kupang weighs too much at 0.6g.

Thanks for the replies. After looking over some of that information, I'm a little concerned about the fact that mine is only about 0.19 grams when all of the others ones are around 0.6 even though the diameters are all about 10mm.
