There are alot of tell-tale signs for a forgery halfpence or farthing of George II/III.
Here are some:
1. Cast not struck.
2. Within an American Numismatic Society - Colonial Newsletter Written About Counterfeit Family (ie.,Parrott Head).
3. Oversized forefinger (this discussion).
4. Crude up/down lettering or spidery lettering.
5. Hand cut lettering. Similar to (4).
6. Solid shield lines within Britannia like the Machins Mills pieces. Not all solid shield lines are Machins Mills.
7. Non-regal year like a 1776 British 1/2d.
8. Underweight to the regal weight standard. Very rarely heavier. Some 1770-1775 1/2d's are very close or AT to regal in designand weight as with that other piece. But again - rare.
As with the other person contect me privately - I can steer you to more information ... not specimens I sold my collections back in 2008-2010 via Stacks/Bowers.
