Very nice coin and today is the day you can show it in https://goccf.com/t/195985 since we are in the 1581-1590 decade.

Very nice coin with a good portrait of Felipe II.

I bet he wasn't happy when he received news in his somber palace at El Escorial that his Gran Armada had been decimated. 'The wind blew, and they were scattered'...

Large silver coins were struck well in Germany in that era but not too good (like this one) in Sicily or Italian regions. Is this the norm?

Yes wonghinghi, German coins were much better struck than Spanish and Spanish Imperial in the 1500's. I understand the Segovia Mint got its first coining press in the early 1600's. At that time, Spain made the enormous 50 Reales coin, just to see if it could -

(the 50R reverse, shown with an American Peace dollar, for size comparison.

I believe the 50 reales has a slightly larger modulus, but the 100 escudos certainly has the greater weight. For reasons I don't entirely understand myself, I fancy the 50 reales more than the 100E. :)

It's not a medal or a token : it's another name for the silver crown.

Here are more informations : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ducaton
