Has anybody purchased or own any Coin mart graded coins .
Are they just a fly by nite grading company .
Was at a estate sale they had a few .
Did not buy them they looked way over graded.

They offer coins that are usually pretty well graded over all . The two fellows who grade them are pretty knowledgeable. Remember the golden rule though buy the coin NOT the holder . This is NEVER to be violated. An axiom of numismatics. Repeat BUY the Coin NOT the holder!

That said - most of those were graded by Roman Tam, and he has a pretty darn good eye...

I have quite a a few coins from them. When ever I bought them all I had to do was phone him and go to there house and pick up whatever I wanted. Coinmart has a lot to choose from as well. Iv always wondered if they had like an actual store or something. From my experience coinmart graded coins seem to be way under graded.

I had a coin from them in an MS grade that was okay. Maybe not in my life time but I would like to see more competition for ICCS that would benefit the hands that feed them, namely us collectors - hey, maybe a union mmmmmmm

My impression is that they tend to slab coins that are typically not economic to send to ICCS.,,,,things like say an MS64 1950s cent that might sell for $5 in an ICCS slab. If such a coin was offered as an ungraded cent on ebay, it likely would fetch only a dollar or two. In their slab, maybe they can get the $5. I have no real opinion on their grading, but to me it looks like a sensible way to sell such coins.

Yeah as smallcentguy says, they are encapsulating coins not quite worthy of ICCS, but are being protected and subject to two sets of eyes. I would have no problem buying anything they graded, although I don't really collect the coins they are grading.

never bought from them simply because their pictures are (almost) terrible. regardless if their grading is fair and accurate, if I can't see the coin (eye appeal) then I'm not buying it.

I don't know about their grading, but I've made a couple trades with them in the past and talked on the phone to the guy there, and he was friendly and accommodating. As Normic said, he suggested coming to look at items in person if I was in the Vancouver area. I would have no worries dealing with them, I have a feeling if you weren't happy with what you got, they would make it right.

I could be wrong here but are they NOT a grading company?
They just grade their own inventory in a somewhat look-a-like ICCS flip.
Accurate or not, they are basically grading their own coins to sell you so just keep that in mind.

Most coin dealers do grade their own raw coins, some are good at it and others are not. Roman and Dave just happen to be pretty good at it. Both are pretty decent guys as well. If you ever had a problem they would be all over it to make sure it was fixed.

They've been around for years so not fly-by-night. Just started offering their graded coins a few years back though. Basically to make it a more marketable/visible guarantee on what they sell. I've bought a few and looked at many more and haven't seen any problems with their grading/varieties identification. As long as you're paying a bit less than you would for an ICCS/CCCS graded coin (most price lists refer to the value of ICCS graded coins) I would have more confidence in one of these than your regular raw coin coming from a seller you don't know.

I just got a coin from them today, very, very happy with it, a good price. Will definitely do business with them again, Dave was very nice.

I didn't know that Roman Tam was one of the principals behind Coinmart. I bought a few things from him on ebay back in the day. I've been hesitant to purchase any of Coinmart's current offerings because their photography does not provide much to go on, so I'm glad to hear the positive remarks here. If they could get their photography down I would probably do quite a bit of business with them, but as it is it is expensive to have to return coins to Canada from the United States.
