I have been wanting one of these coin for awhile now so the other night I was on the Heritage site and saw this one.... http://coins.ha.com/itm/commemorati...notificationI placed a bid on it and thinking that it would sell for more I went to bed, well the next morning to my surprise I won it. The only thing that bothers me is the coin is crooked in the OGH. I read that these holders do not hold the coin very well so I am thinking about sending it to PCGS and have it reholdered, which if I read their website correctly costs $12.00. Good idea, bad idea, or not worth the trouble?

I would just crack it out of the holder, maybe resubmit it if you ever want to sell it.

I would keep it just the way it is OGH for a classic comemmoerative.
Besides, some people think these old " rattler " holders are added value.

I love the Oregon trail coins, but being from Oregon I am a bit biased... That is a nice one you got..

I wouldn't mess with the coin at this point. You got the coin for a good price - why "pay" more for it by getting it reholdered. BTW, the slight rotation in the holder does not diminish the coin's value. Another reason to leave it as is - some collectors prefer the green PCGS holders vs. the more current blue variations and might be more inclined to pay a premium for it. This coin is not in a "rattler" holder; the holder shown is a larger version and a generation or two after the old rattlers.

if it is going to bother you and maybe kick in some OCD concerns then I would re-holder it, but overall I would leave it as is.

Nice addition at a fair price ... well acquired.
As suggested already ... this is not a PCGS 'rattler' holder ... and note that many collectors enjoy the Old Green Holder (OGH) series of these PCGS slabs.
Your coin is not rare in this grade ... neither is the OGH special ... but my advise is to leave well enough alone and keep the coin as-is once in hand.

Thanks for all the advice and I guess I will leave well enough alone. Quote: Nice addition at a fair price ... well acquired. Yes, when I went to bed I didn't think I had a chance of winning it, I was surprised.

You an always crack it out and stick it in an album. Just kidding! I agree with the consensus, leave it alone.

If the coin is a little loose in the holder sometimes you can tap one corner of the holder lightly on a table or other hard surface and the coin will rotate for you.
