Just noticed that the US Mint will be releasing its "2014 Coin and Chronicles Set - Franklin D. Roosevelt" on December 22, 2014.
It looks like the Mint is moving ahead with its plan to continue striking the Presidential Medal series in silver and issuing them in these special sets. Should be a nice collection to assemble over time.

I have not paid much attention to the various modern issues - did pick up a single Lincoln Coin & Chronicles set a few years back.
commems - do you have information to suggest this will be a long running, annual mint issue?

Quote: do you have information to suggest this will be a long running, annual mint issue? I had a discussion with a Mint representative at the 2013 Baltimore Whitman Expo and he mentioned that it was considering ways in which it would release silver versions of the medals from the Presidents series. Later that year the Theodore Roosevelt C&C Set was released. So, I don't have an official US Mint press release about a continuing series, just offering up a hopeful observation. I seem to recall a Mint survey about it as well. Maybe the Mint will provide more details in December with the release of the FDR set!

I bought the Theodore Roosevelt set last year and I really like it. I might get the Franklin, but I will definitely get an Eisenhower set if/when the release it.

Wow! I am getting this set. No doubt in my mind. The only "miss" is the clad dime, but at least they included the dime (which I feared they may not).

 - the silver dime would have been better, jbuck. Maybe they'll surprise us last minute and drop an EU FDR coin in there instead of the proof!

I'll readily admit to my lack of knowledge on the modern commemorative series - and modern coins in general - there is only so much collecting time to spread around. Quote: Move over, 1996-W, there is a new King in town Hopeful that one of the modern commemorative/coin experts can explain why the clad dime intended for this set will be in someway 'special'? I thought (perhaps incorrectly) that anyone could acquire a 2014-S clad dime - standard issue for the non-silver annual proof set. What am I missing. David

@nickelsearcher: I don't believe the dime to be included in the set is special - just a standard proof CuNi dime.
I think jbuck's "King" comment was in reference to the suggestion of an Enhanced Uncirculated version of the dime made by CelticKnot. An EU dime exclusive to the set would make it a sought after piece.

Commems is correct, it was in reference to a hypothetical Enhanced Unirculated Dime.
The mint snuck an EU dollar into the Coin and Currency set, no reason to think an EU dime is impossible (however improbable).

Thank you commems and jbuck for the clarification ...
Appreciate the expert support to help me understand the nuances of this upcoming US Mint issue - I actually had it correct but did not trust my limited knowledge of the subject matter.
The 'EU' abbreviation suggested by CelticKnot confused me ...
Both of you gentlemen are to be commended for your dedicated and vigilant contributions to this forum ...
Thanks ... and Happy Thanksgiving to you and family.

I picked up the Theodore Roosevelt one last year and that was the first one that I knew of.
I had actually intended to make it a pocket piece.
What were the previous ones and when did they come out?

@commems: @jbuck: @nickelsearcher: Sorry for my confusing (yet hopeful) jest; I probably should have not shorthanded Enhanced Uncirculated. And I hope you had a very nice Thanksgiving as well. But that would be so cool... IF either of the non-commemorative coins were EU! @jackjeckel: As far as I know these are the C&C sets: * 2005 - John Marshall * 2006 - Benjamin Franklin * 2009 - Abraham Lincoln * 2013 - Theodore Roosevelt * 2014 - Franklin Roosevelt Looking at my collection, I now see that I need to snag a couple of these. ebay, here I come. Please be gentle.

I'm still sitting on the fence with the FDR C&C set. While the standard proof dime is nothing special, due to its association with the C&C set graded dimes with the set's designate label will have a higher premium over a proof set dime.
