There is what looks like an extra piece of metal on the Buffalo's head that was struck into the coin. What do you guys think happened here? Did part of the rim fall off and get struck into the coin?

It's likely PMD, given the rim damage there,

I was thinking that too except that the anomaly is raised and looks like it was separated from the coin at one time.

1. Part of his horn from being shot by Buffalo Hunters.2. Part of someone's bones that got to close to a charging Buffalo.
3. Cud from the Mint.
4. PMD from being hit on the rim?

It could be a piece that got dislodged from the rim, partially attached and is pressed on the surface. However, given the wear, I'm surprised that it could hang on. Take something soft and non metallic like the cap of a pen, give it a little shove from the side and see if it moves.

Rest in Peace

This one is new to me.
I'll patiently wait for the error specialist to chime in.

You got it! I just moved it with my fingernail! I left it attached though. Any extra value on something like this?

It's just damage. Unless of course, you pitch it as "the amazing burr that hung on for 75 years."

Honestly, I don't know if I see enough displaced metal on the rim to account for that whole "burr." I almost lean toward thinking it's a sliver of something that got caught up in the strike.
