I recently noticed that the 2015 silver bullion Britannia has been revamped. It now sports a textured background on both sides of the coin. I assume it's for counterfeiters to be foiled. I do like it better than Canada's mirco-lines.
I liked the proof like field before this change now do not want them but ya not sure why they change maybe mostly for a attempt for more sale numbers but ya I do not know. I have not read counterfeiters have been a problem for that coin.
Take a look at the 1oz silver Britannia shown on The Royal Mint's website. http://www.royalmint.com/shop/The_B...culated_Coin Looks to me like what they call "Brilliant Uncirculated" has the smooth finish 2014 type obverse. Note that what they call Brilliant Uncirculated is more like what the US mint calls enhanced uncirculated.

But yeah, I don't care for the new anti counterfeit design, I preferred the old style much better. But since it is just bullion and the design never changes anyway, at least it is something different
Right, but not mentioned in that thread is that the "Brilliant Uncirculated" coins that you can order directly from The Royal Mint have the older type obverse.
They are different coins, one is the bullion version and one is the UNC version in limited mintage. Like the burnished W mintmarked UNC version of the ASE.
The proof versions and UNC versions of the Brittanias go for large dollars on the aftermarket.
Today I received the 2015 "Brilliant Uncirculated" 1oz Britannia that I ordered. It looks great and is what we'd call a non-cameo proof in the US. As expected, it does have the smooth finish 2014 type obverse.
The 2015 "Proof" 1oz Britannias are now available. http://www.royalmint.com/shop/The_B...r_Proof_Coin I'll be ordering one. Does anyone know where to find prior issue mintages and original issue prices for the "Brilliant Uncirculated" and "Proof" Britannias? And why do the 2014 proofs seem to go for so much more than the 2013 proofs (according to ebay sales history)?
All the BU Britannia's from 1998 to 2012 were a mintage of 100000. after that is started going way up... Here is a webpage I use that shows mintages for almost all bullion.....excellent info on that page!!
