This coin has an early ANACS photo grade certificate...I can post pics of that, but I'm wondering first how you folks would grade the coin: This is one of the coins in a collection that I've inherited from my father. At my sister's request, I'll be selling some of them and thought I'd start with this one. So, I'm hoping you can help a bit as far as any information I should include in the coin's description. Ngccoin mentions three reverse dies with "C-3" being the scarcest...is that relevant? Also, since this is the first coin I may be listing on ebay, any advice? I've read that you should start the auctions at $0.99. Would you advise that? It's a bit of a scary idea. Also, I was thinking of doing free shipping to appeal to bidders...good idea? Thanks for the help!

High AU to Ms-60 market grade. EAC 55 C-2 in my opinion. Love the color. Coin was probably cleaned far in the past but this does not affect the price. This is a beautiful coin. I highly suggest that you keep the coin with the photo grade cert and don't slab it. Hardcore copper collectors prefer their copper unslabbed. You might consider consigning this coin to a big auction house like Heritage Auctions. Good Luck.

AU-58/ possible low MS I start all my auctions at .99 and free ship. Coins usually realize the price they are worth. I have not had any big losses. On occasion I use fixed price with best offer option. I would however suggest you start with lower priced coins til you get the feel of things and how they work on ebay. If you never sold on there I think you are limited to 10 sales per month for 3 months, and expect your money to be held a little longer. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the advice so far, and the nice comments on the coin. Another question I forgot to ask was regarding return policy. From my limited research so far it sounds like buyer's like to have a return period...is that recommended? If so, how long...one week sufficient? (Maybe this isn't the best place to ask these questions but I really appreciate the advice!)

IMO you might as well accept returns. It gives the buyers peace of mind, plus ebay will most likely back the buyer anyway on a return.

Quote: You might consider consigning this coin to a big auction house like Heritage Auctions. From what I've learned so far, it sounds like the auction houses may not auction a coin like this without regrading/slabbing it. I heard from GreatCollections that they would regrade coins with these older photo certificates. Since it sounds like collectors may be interested in the certificates, I'm more inclined to try ebay with these. But I am certainly worried about selling the more valuable items on ebay.

A bit difficult to judge properly based on the photos, but high AU is a good guess based on what I can see.

Again Phaedrus I suggest you experiment with background color. Try a buff or manilla piece of paper I find that works best over a wide range of sliver, copper and bronze.

Working on getting improved pics...it's still a work in progress but I think we are getting there: Before: After: Before: After:

And here is the cert, with grade AU 50/50. It seems like in general these older ANACS certs grade coins a bit lower. My question is, if I list the coin in an auction, do I say AU 50/50 in the title/description? Do I say it should grade higher today or something like that, or will bidders be aware of that?
