My purchases for the week. There are a few more of them waiting for me at the store, on layaway.

Nice cobs - the 1/2R of Philip II (1556-1598) is very nice even with the minor scrapes and the planchet flaw. That series is hard to find in decent shape with all the elements present.

The first cob is a bit more difficult to figure out. Looks like a Philip III Mexican but the assayer initial is where I would expect to see the denomination and the small shield located on the lower section of the main shield seems to have the internal elements reversed. Have you got the attribution, weight etc.?

The first coin came marked with "1R 1550-1598 Felipe V colonia (Mexico City Mintmark)"

These all came together in a 16 pocket holder for 2x2s. There were ten cobs in all, and the asking price was $500. Ten coins, fifty bucks each. I'm sure some of these are worth a little more, some a little less. This is a new area of learning for me. Any advice or information is appreciated.

ElleKitty The single O assayer initial makes sense for a Philip II (1555-1598) coin and the 1R did use the crowned arms as opposed to the Monogram. Philip V ruled 1700-1746 so that must have been a copying error. Perhaps the denomination on the 1R was omitted and the assayer initial relocated to save space.

The price of $50 each is about right for the first two posted.

Excellent. The dates written on the coin are in line with a Phillip II. The handwriting is fairly messy too.

The Obverse of the coin is so worn, especially on the left side. The details on the reverse seem nice to me, even though there isn't much. The strike might have been bad enough that these details never made it to the coin in the first place.
