I want to buy one as a temporary filler for the big 1955/55. Is there anything I should know before I start hunting? Are there varying degrees of the doubling for this issue, or are they pretty much the same? I'd like a high grade, and if possible, as much doubling as possible.

no a poor mans Double Die is just a double die without the nice spread the other 1955/1955 has, that one is just a Repunched Mint Mark, the other devices aren't doubled

If you want a real spacefiller for the 1955 DDO-001 don't pay for that "poor mans" junk because thats what just what it is- Die Deterioration. Coppercoins lists four 1955 DDOs with the other three being reasonably affordable and actual DDOs The retail side of coppercoin's website has a 1955P-1DO-003 for sale in AU for cheap.

BTW, the link you posted has nothing to do with 1955 DDOs. The coin you posted is a Denver repunched mint mark (RPM).

Thanks for the info, guys!

biokemist6, so there are actual 1955 DDO's for reasonable prices? Would you mind elaborating on that, or tell me how to do a search on ebay?

Obviously the Big One, 1955P-1DO-001, is the one that makes you dizzy when you look at it and will cost close to a grand. The others are not as dramatic as that one and it is reflected in the values but they are still 1955 DDOs nevertheless.
Go to http://www.coppercoins.com/advsearch.php and type in 1955 for the Date, check Philadelphia for the Mint, and doubled die obverse for Variety Type. You will have access to pics of the four DDOs and the die variety info for each one.

Thanks, bio. I'll check it out right now. In the meantime, is this one of them?
