How do Ragged Clips really occur? In no process of metal fabrication is there a ragged way of cutting like this...

Really ragged clips, I suspect, are not necessarily clips.
Perhaps they are the result of gross impurities in the strip (oil?) that cause a blank or planchet to fall apart before being fed into the coining press.

I have seen some very ragged edged coins of highly irreguar random shape, and I have often wondered about how they were formed.

All of the coins of this type of error that I have seen have come from The Royal Mint in Llanstrisant.

I love dark toning on my mercs haha. I think it accents the design though I usually pay junk prices for them.

That is a plated coin, you'll know when you see the edge... the obverse to me looks convincing...
