I was taking photos of this coin for other reasons and saw this, I'm not sure what this is? But it looks like a 2 over 1942.

Looks like it was flattened by a vending machine/coin counter/coin wrapper machine. Wider because of contact.

Here is one no color alterations. Almost looks like a partial 4 to far left. But I might be seeing things?

Color difference may not matter if the event happened years ago. The color can tone with age. At the top left side of the 4 looks like a contact mark that moved the top area of the 4 to the right.

Please look again coop. I put arrows where I was taking about. I think maybe you misunderstood? If not, than I'm sorry. Thanks

If that was a 42, then it would be raised like the date. It looks like coin scratches that makes you think it is something else. It is also note as wide as it should be for a hubbing issue.

I remember there is a 1934 doubled die that shows a raised edge on the field.

But that is the only example I can think of like this at this time.

Usually that variety of dd is underneath correct? Not usually above, at least not that I can remember seeing. Unless it is an RPM, those I have seen above. Thanks Coop

No it is raised from the field. Those devices were weaker hubbed leaving a weak imprint in the die and raised on the coin. I probably would have missed this one (1934 DDO) but someone caught it. (Did you see the overlay?)
