I am wanting to upgrade to an all-in-one set-up. I want either a Microscope w/Camera or just a Camera that will hook in to my computer. I want something I can take closeup and full coin shots without having to switch from one setup to the other. Something that takes Good Clear closeup pics. I understand the lighting is the biggest part of taking good pics. I have been checking out the AmScopes but not sure which would be the best for coins.

Please give me your opinions and/or suggestions.

The best setup for both starts with a DSLR. Digital microscopes tend to be really disappointing for coins. This thread is a good read:

Unless you need REAL closeups as a variety collector you won't need a microscope capability.
By "REAL closeups" I mean where the mint mark fills the screen.
With my DSLR I can get images of cents where I can only see about ΒΌ of the coin on the screen at once.
There are VERY few situations where more than that is necessary.

I suggest putting all of your money into a good DSLR rather than getting a lesser camera so that you can have a microscope at the same time.

Adding an inexpensive microscope objective to a DSLR with an adapter still probably does a better job at extreme close-ups.

One piece of glass cannot do all that. You'll need at least one lens for up to 1:1 magnification - for full-face imaging - and one for detail magnification. Now, you could spend $hundreds on a nice AmScope for those detail images, or $20 on a microscope objective plus the cost of an adapter to go with the dSLR which cost less than the AmScope to begin with. Your choice.

After reading that thread and seeing the outcome, I'm off to shop ebay, lol. By that thread it looks like I will have enough $$ left to buy coins as well(not from ebay tho).

I already have a microscope camera for extremely close searching(50x-1000x) and the camera I have is crazy old. SsuperDdave worked with me on editing my pics with the camera but now it seems to not want to focus. So time to upgrade.

Is there another camera that will work with the lens setup in the link as well or better?

Part of the beauty of the setup is it's camera-agnostic as long as you can find adapters. All the same, we strongly recommend Canons because of EFSC (which most competition lacks) and the free tethering software. The electronic first shutter curtain is an enormous sharpness benefit which we don't recommend going without.

The Rebel XS in the thread is the earliest generation of Rebel with EFSC, so that or newer. Newer cameras net you more megapixels for more money, but aren't really worth the extra cash if this rig will have coins as its' only job. Megapixels are far less important when you can magnify at will.

Ok, would this one work or should I just order the one in the link? There is a chance that the camera will be multipurpose. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Canon-18-...003/35255311

A sturdy, steady mount (such as a copy stand or microscope stand, although a tripod will do) is a must. Also, lights.

Unless you intend to use the camera for tasks other than coin photography, you're spending too much on it. The 18MP sensor was introduced in the T2i, 4 generations before the one you wish to purchase, and no improvements relevant to coin imaging were implemented since. However, it's a heck of a camera at an excellent price if you have other uses for it. The Canon 55-250 lens is an excellent outdoor complement to the 18-55, a great value at the price and ought to be your second walkabout lens.

Camera bought, most parts and lights ordered(still waiting on 1 in auction). Now to learn this camera before all the parts get here. Going to use a tripod stand with a slider until I can find a copy stand.

I bought the camera I listed above to use for other purposes also.

Excellent. Whatever those purposes are, your camera will be very good at them.

"Entry-level" dSLR's have really matured in the last few years. These days, they take pro-level HD video and will test the mettle of very expensive glass. We're utterly spoiled by this level of technology. This is a good thing.
