That 1947 dollar looks like it spent some time in the blacksmith shop where the rims got pounded a few times too many.

.... this is terrible.... just shut your eyes to determine the grade, then feel the rims, 10 dents equals MS-63. oh my gosh.

Here is another one from the same seller using the name of one of our forum members Gatewest Coin. Is this legal? Are they allowed to use someone elses name? They could use the name and put any grade they want on it and make it look like it was graded by a reputable coin company.

Seems like everyone is getting into the act of grading coins? Just put it into a hard slab holder and away you go

The unfortunate part of this is: they are not breaking any laws... anyone can slab coins and say : in our opinion...... it is sad and many inexperienced collectors fall for it. what I personally much dislike is that these basement slabbers seldom show a good image of the coin, but show a great image of the slab, simply to purposely mislead. Grrrrrrrrr

Any seller can package and present coins for sale anyway they wish. But I tend to agree that these are rather deceptive especially to new collectors who fail to learn a little about numismatics before they rush in and buy coins. For the most part newbies buying coins richly deserve what they get. It is up to anyone buying anything to fully apprise themselves of what they are getting into. Education is the key to keeping yourself out of trouble when it comes to the coin market.

Whether it's ICCS, CCCS or some guy slabbing coins in his mom's basement, it's an opinion only. Caveat Emptor, the onus is on the buyer to use their best judgement.
