Hi everyone! Does anyone else here have a bank teller that sets aside coins for them? I have one that sets aside rolls of Kennedy Halfs, rolls of State Quarters, and rolls of Presidential dollars for me. Every time I walk in, she says, "Ben, I got some interesting coins for you." Last time she gave me 6 Ike dollars! Does anyone else have this type of relationship with a bank teller or a coin dealer? Or is it just me? Thank you! - Ben P.S. Has Wyoming came out yet?

I do have a bank teller that keeps each and every 2 dollar bill for me (sometimes I have came out with over 1000.00 worth of 2 dollar bills) and she also keeps all coins she thinks I will be interested in, especially all the coins that get spit out by their counting machine and since they don't take rolls of coins that is usually a pretty good bit

I have tried to develop a relationship with the tellers at my bank. Alas, my attempts have been turned away thus far. To be honest I don't think that any of the tellers at the branches around me have a clue. In fact, it have to explain what "coin dollars" are when I try to get Sac or Presidential dollars coins. Lovely...

I am sad to say my bank does not have banktellers anymore just a row of Las Vegas like machines and an hostess behind a counter to receive requests that cannot be handled by the eight or so no arm machines
Those requests are for entry to the bankvault, for investment advice, for first line complaints etc So even when I know some of these people for 25 years they do not have a euro or eurocent roll to give to me . I have to pay to deposit pocketmoney so I guess I would have to pay to get it too

I have several wonderful tellers at my credit union. While they haven't started actively watching for interesting coins for me, they get me anything I want and will let me search through coins up at their lobby desk rather than have to buy them and take them home. They are great!

Could well be a great source of coins. Unfortunately where I live by the time you get to know a teller even well enought to say hello, they are replaced either due to quiting or promoting of whatever. Maybe just melt away. I frequent 5 different banks in my area as much as possible. Around me there are almost as many banks as there are Starbuck coffee places. Not only do tellers change frequently, but even the banks change names or move on me. Example a St.Paul became a Charter One and now I think it's something else. My LaSalle bank just became something else also. One of my banks changed names, then closed all withing a year. Now we have banks in shopping malls, inside grocery stores and I've heard even Walmart is planning on a bank in their stores. I've had to move safe deposit boxes several times in the last few years due to this. Just can't get to know a teller and getting just as bad knowing a bank.

I have the same problem. The only teller that has ever seemed interested in my collecting was not a teller at my own bank. So how has everyone forged these relationships with tellers? Did you ask them to keep stuff for you or did they offer or even just start doing it?

I started this relationship with my bank teller by going every Saturday and asking if they had any old notes (with the small centre portrait), or if they had any rolls of state quarters/kennedy half dollars.
I suppose many people don't ask this at a bank, so when someone is looking for those types of things in particular, the teller gets interested and asks you questions about your collection. Then it just goes on from there.
After a few weeks if you come in on a regular basis (1 or 2 days a week) then they may say something like, "Wouldn't it just be easier for me to hold these coins/bills for you for next time you come in?"
After a while, if the teller trusts you, they'll let you look through their rolls, and straps of bills.
- Ben
I hope this anwsers your question.

I had a good thing going at my bank over the last 2 years...about a month ago they got a teller in there that transferred from another bank and she collects! Needless to say, she hoards all she can get her hands on. Argh!

Just tell her that anything she finds for you, will go to an "engagement ring fund" for her. Then you should see the coins pouring in.

I have a good relationship with the tellers I know. It comes in handy when asking for certain things, such as a roll of Jefferson Dollars just today. While I have never asked specifically for tellers to watch for coins for me, I do have a couple at the drive-up who let me know what they have available in case I'm interested.
