I have to tell somebody but I can't tell anybody around here(for the obvious reason) so I have to tell you guys and gals.

I was reading thru some of the topics on the community and came across a couple about going to banks and searching thru rolls of halves for 40 percenters and 90 percenters. I also read (on this forum) to go to small town banks where the money don't move around much. Boy oh boy I think I did great!.

The search was of 300 dollars of halves.

Found:
10-90 percent silver 1964
53-40 percent silver 1965 to 1969 and no 1970s

I'm going back tomorrow 'caus the teller said she had all I could carry. I might take her up on that!. So, I must give you, The greatest forum on the planet all the credit for my find!.

I'll tell you what I find tomorrow!. And a BIG thank You to you!.

Be sure to return the unwanted ones to a different bank than the one you got them from so you don't get the same one's back! Congratz!

How do you know which ones are silver?
Is it the ones from the late 60s?

1964 and earlier were 90% silver coins. In halves between 1965-1970 they were 40% silver.

You can use our US Coin Facts link to the left in the navigation area to find this information pretty darn fast. It's a great resource that I use quite often. Here's an example for you:

I'm out this morning. This whole thing. Yea Nelrak, I've decided about 2 am this morning to return them to my bank. I can't help but feel like I'm going to rob a bank at 8 am this morning!. I can't sleep!. I've gotta go to mybank and withdraw the funds, go to the OTHER bank and get another 300 dollars in halves out. I just hope the same teller is there to give them to me. Thanks again to the forum for the ideas and I'll post again...after the deed!.

AHHHH. Now the Silver Police have tracked your internet postings and are the way to your place with the IRS Coin Police.
Hey great find. Just make sure you don't mention which banks in which towns or you will be in the middle of a coin bank rush.
Congradulations.

6-90 percent 1964
23-40 percent 1965 to 1969 and no 1970 or 1976s mints.
