I found a 1927 far, any idea why it isn't listed in Charlton or trends?

What you found is a FAR rim, NOT a far 7. never heard of it. But, why not? it does exist on others.
perhaps you should post images of the actual coins also.

Is it possible that the rim on the "near" is a little bent in from wear?

I suppose that the "Near" coin could have a bent rim. I think that would make the difference between the 2 coins more prominent. However, all of the 1927's exhibit a "Near" design. I could post a different "Near" coin for comparison but that won't change the "Far".

After looking at the Far coin, the wear on it has thinned the letters somewhat which could account for a bit of distancing between the S and the rim.....but not all that space can be due to wear can it?

This is a poor example coin but I will hang onto it and look for more.....if more are found in better condition then it does exist.

The letters on the "near" look rather fat, it may be struck by a worn die. On the other hand, the letters on the "far" look rather thin, it may be struck by an overpolished die, then the corrosion makes the gap look even wider. Disclaimer: I don't have a George V nickel to compare to.
