I took it out of the mint set to see closer. I am regretting it because I think it is MD. What is it? The devices look larger than smaller. I am confused.

It is flat shelf like reducing the size of the devices = machine damage/doubling.

Ok, thanks. I just couldn't see it very well through the mint packaging. Lol. Too bad I took it out.

Hello everyone, I have a similar 1986-P dime, the rim is also doubled on one side, I don't think it's MD. Does anyone know of any true double dies of this mintage? Thanks

That year was probably when they started the single squeeze die process. Seem like doubled dies on the outside edge devices ceased when that happened. Most of the DDs are toward the center on the single squeeze dies most of the time now.

If you'd have played with your lighting, I bet you'd still have it in your mint set. Granted it would probably took quite a bit of time.

The mint experimented with the single squeeze in 1986, used it on nickels and dimes in 1996, and all denominations in 1999.

So it could still affect the edge devices that year. But not on this coin.

Coop, you're too good for me to doubt you for one minute. I put that out there as a public FYI. Good stuff to know when looking for Trail Dies too.
