I just wanted 1996 for the W dime but was offered all the us mint uncirculated 1980-1999 sets for $70 out the door. All coins still in the cellophane. Any value in these or did I get ripped off?

Correct me if I'm wrong... but are you saying you just bought 19 mint sets for $70?
That's less than $4 each... if you like 'em I don't think that's a bad price at all each... if you don't sell 'em for $5 a pop

I think that's actually 20 sets (assuming it's 1980-1999 inclusive), which would be an even better deal at $3.50 apiece.

Yes these are the "United States mint 19xx uncirculated coin sets". I believe they all should include P & D coins. I am getting 1980 to 1999. I mainly just wanted the 96 set for the W dime but the guy wanted 70 for all the sets. Still waiting to get them but he claims all coins are still sealed. These come in what looks like big envelopes with a design on them. This is not the proof sets.

It's a decent deal. I would be cutting them all open myself for my sets though hehe. There is a lot of face value alone in them. 1980 and 1981 has three dollar coins and two halves plus the other coins. The 1981 has the mint set only susan dollars. Extremely low mintages on them. You could had expected to pay $10 for that one if you got a super deal. The 1996 set is $16-$20. You did ok.

I stand corrected. Not as good as a deal as I had thought. Realized this is actually 84-99 so not near as good of a deal. Oh well - live and learn.

It still worth picking up some albums, you got a good head start on some series.

So, did you check the 96 set yet to make sure the extra dime was still within? People have a real nasty habit of selling the 96 set without the extra dime still inside. "Dime? What dime?" It amazes me how brazen they are about it.

Yep everything is there. They all came with the cards and sealed P&D coins in the plastic. I'd like to open them and put them in my collection but I really don't want to open up the sealed coins. 96 has the Roosevelt postcard as well as the sealed W dime. I never thought I'd buy uncirculated coins from a set like this but now I want to get all the years (I'm addicted).

Nice photo. I still think you should cut them up for albums, but would not blame you if you wanted to start collecting the other sets instead. It is your choice and yours alone.

I would take jbuck's suggestion if the sets have coins that would grade at least MS-64. That's a cheaper way of adding coins to your albums. If they are less than MS-64 then you sell the set as it is especially at a local auction. In that type of environment Mint Sets are known to bring way more than they are really worth.
