I have a what I think to be a token coin,colonial or post colonial maybe,on the one edge is the word token,very faint.Thanks for any help

Very interesting. It's a possible Hard Times token but not sure. I'll see if I can find anything out for you.

It's a Canadian "bouquet sou" token from Quebec.

I didn't have access to my catalogues when I posted before, so here's a bit more information for you.

It's listed in the Krause catalogue of 19th century coins as Lower Canada number Tn5. A footnote indicates this is a privately issued token struck sometime around 1837, copying the bank tokens first issued in 1835. It also notes that "Many varieties of Tn5 exist", but yours is probably too well worn to classify it. CV back in 2004 was $2.50 in VG condition, the lowest grade listed. Yours, sadly, is in even worse state than that.

The sou was an old French unit of currency, there being 12 deniers to a sou, 26 sous to a livre. In colonial Canada, the sou was reckoned as being roughly on par with the British halfpenny and American cent; later Canadian bank tokens from the 1840's give the denomination in both sous and pence. The word is still apparently used as slang for "cent" in Quebec.
