The seller obviously took the #3 photograph to show every intricate detail of the coin - every die crack, bag mark, smudge, and microporosity with little emphasis or regard for the way that "eye appeal" was presented. Actually a good and uncommon practice in the early copper sales community.
Rest in Peace

You could say the seller does not know how to take a decent clear photograph.

There are a lot of people who just cannot use a camera properly that sell on ebay and that does not mean they are trying to hide anything it just shows they are incompetent with cameras.

Truth is, you know as well as I you can get some real deals because of poor photographs. Coppers especially require some experimentation. For instance, I have two scanners, one with an all-in-one and one a regular HP scanners and it sometimes takes some experimentation to really show detail. My HP scanner has a 2400 dpi setting, which is great for super close detail for hard to read dates. Cameras are something else, a cheap digital do nothing for coins at all. I do not know how well phone cameras do. Does anyone know?

As far as this coin, it will not sell at that price. If they started it at 99 cents, sure. Someone will want it at 10 bucks regardless of the photos.

It actually seems to have a lot of detail and strong rims for an opening bid of $20. The diagonal dark smudge visible on the obverse could be anything from harmless, removable dirt to a nasty corroded gouge. Anybody feel lucky?
Well, do ya?

I thought the same thing Jaobler. It may actually look really cool in hand if that diagonal line is toning or something. The color looks good.

Are you sure $20 bucks is a good start? I would buy it at $10 or below with those pics. The Morgan was obviously a mistake. I think the coin would actualy be a good buy at $10. The hair lines look good along with the color. The local dealer charges $10 a piece for large cents he has in a small box. I have gotten some good deals in there.
