1856 F.e. Cent, Altered Date?

I think this is an altered 1858 FE cent to look like an 1856.
what does the membership think? I do not have the coin, It was brought in to me in a set.

Despite the suspicious marks, this one doesn't strike me as having been altered. That said, why is it not slabbed?

That is an altered 1858 small letters cent.

Well it has the 5 used in 1857 and 58, not the one used in 56.

I agree it is fake from what Conder said about the five but doesn't the 1858 come in both large and small letters? Also they tried covering up the botched patch work on the left side with gunk poorly and you can make out the outline of the eight.

The coin was in an almost complete Indian head folder that was in a bank deposit box for years. The deceased persons relatives brought in the set to get an idea of value. They had no intentions of selling, since it was something they wanted to keep.

The rest of the coins looked good. I informed them of the experts opinions, as I had told them I thought the 1856 was altered.
