I would like to have a detailed book on the Seated Liberty half dollar series. I do enjoy the design and made it a point to have it in every denomination. I have been wanting to get some info on the dies/die pairings used for some of the harder to find varieties. The methods I use to look for such varieties are pretty crude right now. I picked up an 1873 and 1877 Half the other day. I believe that San Fransisco had their own dies for this series. I purchased the 1873 No Arrows because I enjoyed the fact that it had historical significance and also because I thought it had some similar die cracks, lines, gouges, as the 1873 S With Arrows. Again, my information has come from one online source and looking at an MS 65 1873 S Arrows example on PCGS. Not exactly the most scientific way of going about things haha! Any thoughts on a good book of reference would be awesome. Thanks

There are books on the series

The Complete guide to Liberty Seated half dollars by Randy Wiley and William Bugert This book can be found for free on line
http://blog.davidlawrence.com/index...alf-dollars/

This book covers the series date by date and included information on many but not all die varieties. For example for 1861-O it lists four varieties one of which was struck by the Confederacy. There are now 15 known varieties and six of them were struck by the Confederacy.

William Bugert has also been writing and selling books on the Seated halves (Book for each mint) that includes all the known varieties. These are only available directly from Bugert

I've seen these books offered from other dealers, but likely cheaper directly from the author. There are four volumes out.

Vol. 1 San Francisco
Vol. 2 Carson City
Vol. 3 New Orleans 1840 to 1853 no arrows
Vol. 4 New Orleans 1853 with arrows to 1861
