Normally I would consider this PMD except that he letters on the crack are not affected at all. The crack goes around the rim and under the letters in "LIBERTY". Is this an error?

Interesting. Either a lamination in just the right spot, or perhaps Die Deterioration.

I was going to say lamination since I have seen these before. It appears to be peeling along the edges but I am not sure.

Yeah, the only thing keeping me from being certain is the amount of rim encompassed by the lamination. The planchet punched next to it probably layered if it survived to the press.
