Nothing against this seller, he's actually about $8K below what Coin World currently has this coin pegged at in this grade. I'm just asking if you'd lay down almost $15K for a coin with such impaired eye appeal, regardless of how NGC sees it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1925-S-PEAC..._1470wt_1153Colligo ergo sum

Not only is the coin an abomination, the seller is seriously overestimating the market's confidence in NGC with this issue. In PCGS or NGC/CAC, a $15,000 coin. In NGC alone, probably $8,000. The disparity in perception is that great.
But first and foremost, it's a monumentally ugly coin.

NGC is going down hill FAST with crap like this getting slabbed.
A couple of weeks ago there was an obviously cleaned (and so noted by NGC) details AU $20 lib that got cracked out, resubmitted back to NGC, and magically slabbed in a problem free NGC slab. Talk about an upgrade!
These incidents show there is absolutely no rhyme or reason why they do what they do.

Yeah, that's one ugly dollar. "Hard-to-find gem example" my molpy. I can very much imagine, however, that the coin might well in fact have a technical MS-65 grade - it's just that its tarnish (I cannot in good conscience call this stuff "toning") was particularly unlucky.
I personally would rather have a nice XF or VF example than this ridiculousness, but I can very much imagine that someone else might well think differently.

This coin is one of the most hideous Peace dollars I have ever seen. It seems like these coins always tone badly (see this thread- https://goccf.com/t/1905430). That really stinks because it's a great design. If I had that much money to spend on a coin (which I don't) I would not get that thing.

Is there a reason why Peace dollars are usually found with ugly, splotchy toning?

Hey hey hey, that's no way to treat a lady! She could be much better in person, maybe the pictures are bad. I think she's pretty just the way she is. Okay, not $15,000 pretty, but it's pretty clear the seller is just fishing for offers. The higher you ask, the higher the offers you tend to get and SOMEtimes you chase away the feather merchants. (Sometimes you invite them, too.) Monumentally ugly... HEY, that Peace dollar is another Peace dollar's sister! What yer mou...er... fing... er. Something. ; )

I really like toned coins but the color of this one just turns me off. To set things straight, overall NGC is much more accurate grading coins these days than PCGS. Sure, some dealers have an "in" at grading services and can get problem coins with numeric grades but, when the majority of NGC coins submitted to PCGS and get anywhere from a + designation to one point higher in grade then that is a problem. EVERY coin I resubmitted to PCGS regardless of whether it in a prior PCGS holder or came out of an NGC holder all but one came back to me one point higher. The exception was a Half Dime which got a plus to its original grade. PCGS IS going to reward a person sending a competitors' slabbed coin to them that way so they can get more resubmissions therefor increasing their profits and try to become the service dealers/collectors will prefer. That strategy is actually working. NGC has always been known to objectively grade toned coins where PCGS will actually not give a coin the grade it deserves because it has overall toning. A member of another forum asked one of the PCGS graders at a major show last month about why PCGS limits grades on toned coins and his response was essentially PCGS policy as a rule will knock one point off the actual technical grade on toned coins. He went on to say that it may be right but that is what they do and they are not going to change.
