barryg,
My condolences for your loss of Hobbes. Last November 22nd, I lost my cat Pumpkin. Pumpkin was an orange tabby, like Hobbes. I had had him since he was six weeks old; he passed away aged sixteen years and five months. I was fortunate to have had him for so long, but it wasn't long enough, just as with you and Hobbes. Somewhere there is another wonderful cat that wants to share its life with you. Seek and you shall find.

My daughter has suggested an excellent name for an old (male) cat that I am considering taking up that may have been surrendered: Furgus What is the equivalent female name?

It is difficult to wonder if there is a heaven for animals. If so, and I hope there is, I too have lost many pets over my life time. I think it is rather unfair that our pets just can't live as long as we do. Sorry for your loss. I no longer have any pets. To old to start worrying about when they will pass. I too miss all the pets I've had in my life.

Quote: It is difficult to wonder if there is a heaven for animals Well, since I'm not planning on being there myself, it would kinda stink if my cat were there and I weren't...

I am sorry for your loss. On the subject of a heaven for pets, this poem comes to mind: Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Author unknown...I am also fond of this story (yes, it's from iFunny) explaining why pets live shorter. Nice coin by the way.

I believe we will see our best friends again as sure as we are here now :-)
Let these creatures of God know how much you love them while they are here. That's all we can do as good human beings.
