We just had to have our nearly 18 year old calico maine coon Emma euthanized yesterday. I know it's a hard loss when a long time feline friend is gone. My sympathies.
Congratulations on your new coin.

I lost my buddy, a small dog of 17 years old a while back.
I live completely alone now.
I am getting a bit old myself, so it would be a bit irresponsible to get another young cat or dog, because it may outlive me.
My daughter proposed a solution to the problem: Go to the pound and get a well loved old cat that has been surrendered, because the owner has died. Seems to me to be a good idea: Rescue such an old moggie, that otherwise would most probably be put down because nobody wants it.
That is what happened to the small pound dog we (my wife has died too) about 20 years ago, because nobody else wanted him. He was due to be put down the day after we took him.

I am so very sorry for your loss (Paul too). My wife and I are definite cat people, we have eight, all rescues, and a couple are in the 18+ range, so we're dreading what you're going through. It is nice to give a home to someone less likely to get a home/life than a kitten, like sel's daughter suggested. My thoughts are with you and you have a great coin with a grand story now.

I'm so sorry you lost your buddy, Hobbes. He looks like a great cat. Nothing better than a huge, warm cat snuggled happily in your lap!! And a great Mercury dime too!

Quote: Go to the pound and get a well loved old cat that has been surrendered... Well, if I ever were to get another cat, I would certainly get an adult and not a kitten, since it's so hard to tell what a cat's personality will be when they are just a kitten. And I have no problem getting a cat from the pound, either. But I would not really want to get an "old" cat that is likely to put me through this heartache again in a short period of time. Of course, I'm not a old as you are and still have my wife and son around to care for a cat if something were to happen to me, so I guess it's just a different situation. I do hope you get another pet soon, though. Nobody should be alone!

Very sorry to hear about your loss. I had my cat Token for many years, through alot of jobs, houses, and girlfriends. He was my only "constant" in many years of changes. Glad you have some good pics of him, preserve the memories. My view is, Pets give us all they have to give, their companionship and their lives to hold in our hands. Gotta rember the good times!
And that is a beautiful dime! You could name your proof set "The Hobbes Collection"!

Im so sorry to hear that. It is amazing the effect that a companion animal can have on our lives. We currently have 3 cats and a small dog, and it will be a sad sad day when I have to say goodbye to any member of my pack (human or not). It's been 4 years since my calico, Marzipan, passed, and I still think about her all the time. Think of the good times and how lucky you are for having Hobbes in your life. The pain will pass, but the good memories will live on. Saudade.
In other news, good lord that is a beautiful coin. Nice snag! I second that this be part of "The Hobbes Collection".

I'm sorry about Hobbes barryg. He was beautiful.
Our cat Lynxsy just turned 7 and we love her so much and she doesn't like when we are not home. She'll cry. I know exactly the love you are talking about.

I am Truly Sorry for the loss of Your Friend. I have nursed my old Dog back to health, had to feed him via turkey baster, doing well now, nothing vet can do. I know how you feel.

Paul, I am sorry for your loss, too. It's so hard to have to go through that.
I agree with sel, though, about taking in an older pet when we get older. My husband and I have already talked about that.
This is such a sad subject, but it's so nice that so many of us are like-minded about our furry babies. There is some comfort in that.
