Those just came out in 2007, right? Can I still go to a bank and get a roll of all that have been released? Are there variations or anything special I should look for?

You more than likely will have trouble finding them at banks. They may still have the last released one, but you won't find the Washington and Adams rolls at a bank.

If you are going to try to obtain earlier Presidential dollar rolls, I would do it soon. Two weeks ago I was able to get a roll of Washington and Adams dollars at my bank. The teller gave me the last roll of Washington dollars they had.

A bank down the street from me, BB&T, I think has several hundred dollars of George left, only P mintmark though. They told me they couldn't give them away & won't be ordering any Jeffersons until they use the current stock. The tellers were overjoyed when I told them that they could use them on the public transit system - I guess they figured they would never get rid of them. All of the currency and coins they carry seem to be new (I don't do too much roll searching there) so you might shop around at a bunch of different banks and see who has them stacked in the vault. I am not crazy about the dollars but I love the idea of the dollar coin. I search the rolls (US Mint wrappers even) cherry pick and then toss the rest into the public transit system. Look around because I bet you will have some luck.

Also wanted to mention that I had ordered 2 rolls earlier this year from the US Mint and that the quality of those rolls was really really poor compared to the ones from the bank. Maybe the ones from the US Mint were stored improperly because in addition to a large number of nicks, scratches, gouges and spotting they also seemed to have random cloudy areas on the field both obverse and reverse. I was pleasantly surprised that the dollars from the bank (stored in a vault) were of a much higher quality in every respect.

Regarding variations and things to look for, the edge seems to be where the excitement is. Some dollars were issued without the edge lettering. Some were issued that had been lettered twice, with overlapping words. These error coins seem to be selling for around $100 a piece.

Around me the banks also have problems getting rid of those things. They keep asking me if I want any. I am a firm believer that those will only be worth a dollar each in 30 years since so many are being hoarded and none being circulated. A few try to circulate them but it is failing. No one I know wants them, uses them, likes them except a few for the fun of it. They will eventually be like the Bicentennial Quarters no one wants anymore. I suggest you spend your money on something you really want or need.

Get them from the bank and spend them. I leave them for tips. :)

If you are really into the coin and want to search for "variation" then: 1) Godless dollar - plain edge, not edge lettering 2) DD on the Reverse, right at the elbow of Liberty, where one tip of her crown touch her hand - you can go to Mr. Ken Potter site or search online (google) for more detail.
They came out Washington, Adams, Jefferson and will release Madison latter this year. You can just put them away as a saving (if you have extra cash laying around), but don't pay premium for rolls. We have members in this forum that are willing to trade with you. Just put your post up for trading....
I hope this will help you. Bruce

There are a few other small errors on the reverse of all of them out so far. A small raised dot on the tablet liberty is holding (part facing toward you)also a missing section just to the right of it near the rim. A so called extra spike crack between the 3rd and fourth spike on liberty's head, the bottom of her robe running down into the rim of the coin, and some hor. lines across the robe area. Do not know if they have been deened errors yet or not. There is a possible die crack on the washington obverse being called A "Wild Whisker" I found 24 in a roll of 25 I got from the bank. It runs under his chin hor. and you can also see a little whisker on his chin. Not much info on that one either. I post at the error forum for some of my error coins and I asked there about it. No response yet. If you are an NRA member and get one of their mags. every month, you can get an NGC certified and slabbed dollar for only a buck with free shipping. Can't beat that deal. They have an ad in the mag. every month for them. I bought a couple each month the first three issues out (wash. adams etc.)kept one for myself and sold the others for 6 bucks ea. at flea markets.
