This one is a sad story from the collection inherited from my father. It looks like it was advertised as an 1883/2, so I think he overpaid quite a bit for it...since it really looks like just an 1882. Because of that corrosion, I'm not sure how much it would fetch on ebay...I've already tried an acetone bath.

How would you grade the coin? Thoughts in general? If I do list it for sale, and descriptors I should include? Thanks.

Maybe post a close up of the date if possible. I think it is an overdate.

Definitely looks like the overdate to me. Maybe others can comment on condition, and value.

Could be an RPD, not uncommon for this series.....not 1883/2 overdate though. The logotype (spacing of numerals in date) is wrong....one of the "filled 2" varieties? XF details....cleaned?

As amida mentioned, for 1883 the date digits were clearly wider spaced than 1882 - it was a deliberate design change. This is clearly the 1882 spacing, and the filled 2 is so common it's thought they may be as common as unfilled ones.

So if I list it for sale should I call it a "filled 2"? And for rating does XF sound about right? I can try to take some more pics.
