I think what you mean is the devices blending in to the edge? Indication of a VLDS (Very Late Die State). As a die ages the devices tend to flow toward the rim. Or, it is slightly MAD (Miss Aligned Die). Hard to say from your pics....
Thank you. I'll try to take a better picture. Its the area that says "in god we trust". Each of the top part of the lettering is touching the outer edge, and blended into it.
Generally it would just be circulation wear but the 1968 was know for this because of the way the dies were made. The mint made changes to the design of the dies to fix this design flaw. John1
The master dies were worn out and the 1969 they made the new master die. (Without the last two digits That were added each year until 1983? What I read somewhere.)
